Term 4

Term four has arrived! This term is going to be very busy. There's the ball coming up and Athletics and so much more. Yesterday we started Social dance preparing for the year eight ball. Also coming up is the lip sync. I'm doing the lip sync with my friend Renee. We are doing a mix of song consisting songs such as Man in the mirror and Sugar. In maths we have started statistics, and in English we are  comparing short stories to a moving image based on the short story. So far this year I have 11 badges but are hoping to get two more which are softball and Athletics. In the last few weeks of term 3 I went to Sports Camp where I meet up with many of my old friends from Belmont, and of course made many new friends. I really enjoyed sports camp and did a lot of new things such as BMX. We did really well coming third over all and winning the sportsmanship trophy which is the hardest to earn by far.

Also this term there are the many sports going on this term some of the ones I am in are, cross country, Aims games, Sports camp, jump jam and many others. I am also really looking forward to the Murray band music stay over along with all the other band activities. Along with all the sports and cultural activities there is also our chocolate selling competition/fundraiser that I am really looking forward to that, and as you can  see this term is going to be very very busy.

Prouduction

For the past term around 80 kids ( including me) were involved in Te Awamutu Intermediates production. We had practices on most Sunday and Tuesday afternoons, till the week before production where we were out of school for the whole week practicing. We practiced hard and tried to perfect the production and by the end of the week we were all tired. On the following Monday we had our dress rehearsal, our final practice before our first show. We got our costumes on, and read over our scripts before it was our turn to go on. The following day we had our matinee, our first performance. It went OK but we knew we could do better that night. Later on in the day we arrived to get our make up and hair done for our first night performance. The performance didn't go very well, people messed up, forgot lines and some one even lost their voice half way thorough their song we were all a little disappointed. The following night we preformed amazingly well  compared to Tuesday night. Every thing went well, even though Mrs Ellis had to become the new wally after the first wally lost his voice. On the last night we were all sad to be doing our last performance , but again we preformed outstandingly well. At the very end of the show, after the last bows had been made and the flowers were given to the directors we knew it was all over. Thank you so much to Mrs Ellis, Mrs Shaw Mrs German, Mrs Bailey, Mr Oliver and all the other teachers who help out for all you've done, we couldn't have done it all with out you.

Week 5 Learning Reflection

For my learning this week I have done a seconded verb work sheet and have been assigned a new writing task. First we were given some photo copied  information from a book about penguins, we then had to write in all the facts and key points in note form on a piece of paper. The next day we were told that we had to write an information report using only the notes we had taken and a few notes from Mrs Crowe. Last week we also  had our yr 8 french lesson. We went over what we had learnt the past week, then we were taught how to  say what the weather is, like rain, mist, sun and so on in french. I have also finished the first book in a new series i have started reading called I am number four.I have also now started on the second book, the power of six.

My Wellington Camp Monday and Sunday

Sunday
I arrived at school on Sunday morning week 8, I was really excited because today my class and I were setting of for Wellington. We loaded our bags on the bus and help put some of the kitchen supplies on the bus then said our last farewells to our parents and we were on our way.  At first most of us were kinda excited but it didn't take long before everyone were either listening to music, playing games on there iPod or tablets or sleeping. We had a few toilet stops and a lunch stop on the way but to me it didn't feel like a long trip. I've been on way longer trips and they were in car, with annoying siblings, with nothing to do and this bus trip was a lot nicer. When we arrived we unpacked the bus and carried our luggage to our cabins. After unpacking a bit we went to explore. There was many places to play round but the campsite did have a big jumping mat that I liked to call the blob. The blob was quite wet and since there's sand around it, it took no time before the mat was covered in sand and we were covered in mud so dinner was a little bit late because lots of people had to "clean up". Our first dinner of sausages and coleslaw and was really enjoyable after our long trip. After our stomachs were full we went to our cabins and messed around until we had to go to bed.

Monday
Our first morning wake up wasn't to bad since we weren't tired yet. I got out of bed and then try to attempt to get Kylie out of bed... I failed. Next I went to get breakfast. I had my normal, two pieces of toast with jam and then I made my lunch, filled up my drink bottle then was free to go on the blob. Soon it was time to set of for our first destination, Zealandia. I personally really liked Zealandia. At Zealandia we were split into two groups then we started our walk through nature. I thought we had a great guide, he was funny and he pointed out all kinds of interesting plants and animals. I meet a takahe, lots of kakas, a few wood pidgeons, ducks, two tuatara and so much more. My favorite animals I saw were the wood pidgeons and the kakas because I thought the kakas had a great personality, were really funny and were really smart. The reason I liked the wood pidgeons was the fact that they were sitting on a bridge we were about to cross and we slowly walked up to them and I felt like I could reach out and touch them. When they finally flew away we were so so close to them it really was a cool experience. Next we were off to Te Papa  one of my favorite places we went to.Te Papa is a type of museum that instead of looking at historic objects it was a modern type of place were you could interact with lot of it, it had things that kids were might be interested in (like the giant squid) and it also had lots of props from the hobbit movies. There was a earthquake room, a giant ork statue (it looked so real), an interactive Air New Zealand exhibit, a baby blue whale skeleton and some much more fun stuff that if I wrote it all it would go on forever. My favorite thing to do at Te Papa was the Air New Zealand exhibit. It had a wall covered in photos of the old flight attendant clothes and new ones, a place with props they used for making special safety videos, touch TV screens were you could watch all the special edition flight safety videos like the the hobbit one, business class airplane chairs and beds and lots more. The best thing to do in the Air New Zealand place was a place were you sat down and put on a pair of goggle type things and they played a video through them, except that it wasn't really a video at all because you could look behind you and you could still see things. They showed you what it felt like and looked like to be sitting in a airplane and they told you what they were working on to achieve. They also changed the scenery around you, from a forest were a looked like a moa walked past you and butterfly's fluttered past, to a beach with the water right in front of you and they said that they want to invent a way to make the scenery be able to change in their airplanes. Our next stop was the Wellington Nation Library. I was a bit disappointed in this because I thought it was going to be a huge library, with new and old books, so i was quite surprised when we arrived and saw no books. The library may not have been what I expected but because the man who showed us round was so funny and good at his job it made up for not getting to see all the old books. We learnt about WWI, how to use the information pods, where they books are keep and why, what kind of technology the have and we also learnt about why people go there. After the Library we went to our last stop for the day, H2OXtreme. I think I'm talking on behalf of everyone in my class, it was fun. There were wave pools, a lazy river and 3 hydro slides. When our time was up and Mrs Crowe told us to hop out we were all sad but we were ready to go home and go on the blob.

My Learning Reflection

So far this week I have learnt about ratio in maths, building on my knowledge of works in English and have been writing a memoir. For sports I have been playing in the inter class volley ball games, practising for wims girls football and have also been playing dodge ball for PE. The work sheet I did on building on my knowledge of words had questions about using the correct form of the verbs. So if the sentences is Mother has blank a rug from wool and the verb is weave you have to write it in the correct form so instead of mother has weave a rug from wool it will be mother has woven a rug from wool.  Also over the past few weeks we have had painters working on a shine mural for our school. In our school we shine. S stands for show respect, H stands for honesty, I stands for including others N stands for never giving up and E stands or seeking excellence. In our school if we demonstrate one of these acronyms in school we sometimes get a signature then once you get 10 signatures under one of the letters you get a rest band and if you get all 5 bands you get a bronze shine badge. I've got 2 bands my showing respect band and seeking excellence band and I only need one more signature to get my never giving up band.

Week 7 Learning Reflection

This week I have been practicing square root, powers and multiplication algorithms. Ex, If you are doing expanding and simplifying powers it will either be written like this (5^4) or 5x5x5x5. With square root, the root of 81 is 9 and 9 squared it 81 because 9x9 =81. The number has to be able to be multiplied by itself to get a number so 2x2 is 4 or 3x3 is 9.

This week I have also been given a small part in our school production and today in lunch I went to a soccer activity for any girls wanting to try out for I.I soccer. We first played a game called sharks and islands. There are three people with bibs on and the are the sharks. The others all have soccer balls and have to dribble it round inside the coned area while the sharks have to try kick it out. After the first game we were split into 5 teams and told to chose a country name. My team chose Spain since most of the best soccer teams come from there like Madrid and Barcelona. We had a few games show casing our skills but soon the bell rang for the end of lunch and we had to head back to our class room.

Week 6 Learning Reflection

This week I have learnt about factor trees. When I do factor trees I normally start by dividing the number by 2 so if the number was 44, the two numbers under it would be 2 and 22. Then since 2 is a prime and it can't be divided by anything you have to divide 22. Again 22 can be divided 2 so the next to numbers under 22 will be 2 then 11. Now since both 2 and 11 are prime numbers you have to finish the tree there.

Week 6 Writting

The Lonely Tree

The tree stands firm
It dose not squirm
As the storm comes raging in
It pulls at her arms and her fingers spin
All by herself the only one left
Alone by the abandoned creak
As the sky begins to leak
I shed a tear as my old friend finally gives into the sky
My shade, my climbing friend, my silent company I begin to cry
Good bye.

My Tree
When I have had enough
When life is to tough
I run to you
Past my sheep and cows that goes baa, moo
Under your refreshing shade
Under your protecting glaze
I climb you arms
Look out at the farm
As I watch your leaves fall slowly to the ground
I listen to the wind going around
Here I am safe
Here I am at peace
Into your arms I belong

learning Reflection week 4

During the past week I have been working on identify factors, Primes,  prime factors and multiples. A simple example for factors is this, if you are trying find the factors of 12, factors pretty much mean the numbers that can multiple into the actual number, the factor of 12 are  (1,12) (2,6) (3'4) because all of these numbers can be multiply into 12. We have also been doing PAT test. In the tests that I have have done so far I have either stayed the same or moved up one.  I am either on state-nine 7,8,9 so I have improved in most subjects.
